Commentary

TEAM CHANGES

Rajasthan Royals: Shubham Dubey and debutant Donovan Ferreira come in for the injured duo of Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer.

Delhi Capitals: Ishant Sharma and
Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals Captain):
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals Captain): We would like to bowl first. It looks like a good pitch to chase on, but let's see how it goes. We're comfortable with either option, but we need to carefully consider our team's strengths and weaknesses. Ultimately, we've decided that we would prefer to bowl first.
TOSS UPDATE: Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and have opted to field
Pitch Report (Deep Dasgupta & Brian Lara):

Deep: "Would you believe it if I said that 249 is the average score so far? Yes, that's right, 249. You heard me correctly. In five out of the six innings, scores have exceeded 200. One obvious reason is the dimensions of this ground, which are relatively small. Especially today, on my right, is the shorter boundary, measuring only 59 meters. Behind me, towards the third, if I'm a right-hander, is the shortest pocket at just 53 meters. On my left is the longest side, stretching to 67 meters, and 75 meters towards mid-wicket."

Lara: "Firstly, I'd like to mention that upon observing the pitches early on, they seemed to have a bit more grass covering them. With the additional grass, there were fewer visible cracks. However, now there are more bare patches, indicating an increase in cracks. Upon closer inspection, it appears that there is a layer of grass covering the middle of the pitch. Given this observation, if the players intend to pitch the ball up, it wouldn't be practical because it's actually under the bat. Therefore, I would encourage the bowlers to aim for a consistently good length. The way the batters are playing, it seems the state of the pitch doesn't really matter. It's all about the batters themselves. Therefore, I believe we're in for another high-scoring game."

Deep: "This venue has consistently witnessed high scores, and I expect more of the same today. However, the scores might be slightly lower than what we've seen so far due to the lack of grass on the surface. I had a conversation with Ankit, the curator, and he mentioned that there hasn't been much dew over the last couple of evenings. So, if you're brave enough, winning the toss and opting to bat first could be a good call."
Rovman Powell (Rajasthan Royals): "I think its been the communication between the captain, the coach and the players. Communication goes a far way, communication brings clarity throughout the group. And, I think that has been a driving force in our success so far."

"As a batter you get excited (reading about the average score in Delhi which is 249 this year). But the important thing is to get back down to work and when you get to bat, you do the simple basic stuff right. Hopefully when you do that, you get result more often than not."

"I think it was a simple one to reflect on (the previous game). It was unfortunate for me to miss a full toss, I was there and in close games, you cannot overthink it. Bhuvi bowled a good over and kudos to him. But hopefully the next time, I can cross the line for my team."

"There is always a point to prove. I am here to do a job and the job is to do well for Rajasthan."

"One thing I like about this team is the way they plan. I think we as West Indies team can plan like that. They go into specific, they go into detail. That accounts for the overall success of the team. It is something I am looking forward to take with me from a personal point and see how I can rub it onto my fellow West Indians."
Sandeep Sharma (Rajasthan Royals): "Obviously, the role has changed for me. Previously I was bowling with the new ball a lot but in the last few seasons, I have been bowling with the old ball in the middle and death overs. In the first few matches, we had Nandre Burger but then we both got injured and our bowling formation changed and I once again got the new ball. I enjoy bowling with the new ball a lot. Over the years, it has been my strength. Along with that my variations while bowling in the death overs depend on the conditions in which I am bowling."

"I would pick swing over pace because it has given me a lot of success over the years. But I won't mind if I get pace as well (chuckles)."

"As a bowler, we talk in the team meetings to bowl in good areas while bowling on flat pitches. It is a high scoring venue so you have to have a big heart. Even bowling at 10 runs per over is a good spell these days."
