KKR vs LSG
7:27 PM IST and Local Time: We are all set for the live-action at Ekana Stadium for one last time in IPL 2024. The crowd is cheering the Lucknow Super Giants, obviously. Outcome the two on-field umpires, Sai Darshan Kumar and Yeshwant Barde. Sunil Narine and Phil Salt are walking out as KKR openers. Marcus Stoinis with the new ball for LSG. Here we go...
Akshaya: Good evening, buddy, and to all the viewers tuning in. LSG is one of the dominating forces at home. KKR has been on the same side as well. I think KLR has done well with the toss. With their bowling options, they should stop KKR's top order. Not biased but backing my hometown boy Kannur Lokesh Rahul to lead LSG to another win.
Deepak: Good evening, folks! It's time to welcome Akshaya for a quick chat. Hey buddy, LSG have had a roller coaster ride so far in the tournament, and they would want to win this contest to strengthen their position on the points table. On the other hand, KKR have performed well in this IPL, barring a few matches, and are sitting comfortably in the second spot on the points table. Do you think LSG will come out on top tonight and avenge their previous loss against KKR?

Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders Captain): "We would have bowled as well. It's six in a row now (on losing the toss). Well, that gave us tremendous confidence, defending 170 at Wankhede Stadium, especially with five bowlers. That gave us a lot of confidence from within and also the bowlers stood up at the right time. So there's a lot of self-belief in the team and in each other as well and that is what is important at this point of the game, I guess.
We are batting first so, we are going with the same team and if we see anything happening on the wicket based on that we will be making a decision in the second innings and which bowlers to bowl with. Hopefully, we will continue with the same form.
(On Mitchell Starc) That gives us a lot of confidence from within, and he has been optimistic throughout. Right from game one, it's just that he wasn't able to execute according to the plans. But in the last game, he was spot on in terms of implementing the scenarios, and I personally feel that he's got tremendous character and attitude. I was basically happy for him the way he executed."

KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants Captain): "We will bowl first. I don't know much about the conditions. I am not a good person to read them. We like chasing.
The pitches have been different every game. The good thing for us is that we have been adapting quickly to the conditions. We have been playing on a couple of different tracks here and also travelling around. So, we have done well in adapting to them.
Individual performances too in a competition like this. Everyone's put their hands up.
Look, obviously, there has been a lot of talk about the strike rate. I know the T20 game has changed over the years. I have been trying to attack the bowlers early on. The game is evolving. Teams are eyeing 220 regularly. And that is also not safe.
Quinton de Kock was injured in the last game. He is doing good. But we are sticking to our combination that was played in the last game. Mayank Yadav is also injured. So Yash Thakur comes in."

TOSS UPDATE: Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Varun Chakaravarthy (KKR): "I would say the whole team is well-prepped, and the plans, along with the hard work that's going on behind the scenes, have proven to be very beneficial this time.
I definitely tend to bowl better when there's a challenge ahead of me. When I don't see a challenge, I tend to try something new, and that's where I falter. Knowing what I have to do helps me perform better.
The wickets are slowing down a little, but I wouldn't say significantly. However, if you consider a score of 170, given the trend of scores in the 260s, now 180s are looking very low. But that's not the case. Teams are still able to score 180s.
Personally, I've played a lot of domestic games at this ground, apart from the SMAT. But many people in the team were asking me about the ground and the pitch, as none of them had been here before. So we've seen a few footage and have planned and prepped accordingly. Well, let's see how it turns out today. (How to defeat LSG) Do better than the last game."

Ramandeep Singh (KKR): "As I mentioned earlier in the tournament, I don't get to bowl with the impact player rule coming into play. All the teams prefer to use the main bowlers.
I have been doing well in the limited opportunities I have had this season, but I want to do even better. I will always try to give my best when the team needs me the most.
See, the communication has been very clear in the dressing room. The management is backing us. Both have been a factor for the team to do well. The unity in the team is very good. Hence we are doing well at the moment.
We are taking one game at a time. We think about the same throughout. The ultimate goal is to stay at the top."

Ayush Badoni (LSG): "I have been kept flexible in the middle order. I have made it clear to the captain and the coach that I can bat at any number. I am okay with that. I can adjust to any number.
I love to bat at number 4 every time. I like number 4. For the Delhi State team as well, I got runs batting at that number.
I did watch that run-out incident in the last game. According to me, it was not out (chuckles).
We are doing well. A couple of wins will get us into the playoffs. Players are positive. If we win tonight, we are almost in the playoffs. So, we will try to win tonight."

Jonty Rhodes (LSG fielding coach): "I am trying to get in a few boys' ears throughout the game and sitting still. I'm not very good at it, as you can imagine, so I still love being involved and having the opportunity to get sort of ringside seats, as it were, especially on the bigger boundaries. When I'm looking for guys to save the two, I'm on their case throughout the night. I'm not there to hold their hand. Sometimes I'm there to kick them in the butt.
What a great opportunity still to be involved, but my time is done, and honestly, there is no anxiety or wish to get out and perform the way the players do these days. My generation has been left way behind.
I think, you know, obviously for a few of the guys, there's been a little bit of injury management, nothing serious, but just making sure that at this stage of the tournament, we want to be able to pick from all the healthy blokes.
And from now on, I mean, it's really just been a top-up because whatever you're doing in practice, you're not going to change much. It's about ensuring that you've topped up, you're feeling good, and pretty much at this stage of the competition, it's about taking that confidence into the game itself.
(On Mayank's injury) Well, you know, it's been a big loss because he burst onto the scene the first couple of games that he played, and Morne Morkel from the beginning has always called him the team's Ferrari, so we've got to look after him. So it's sort of gutting for all of us for him to have the same injury come back. You can't replace a guy like Mayank very easily. I mean, there's enough depth in our squad to manage it, but not somebody who's consistently bowling at 150 plus. We have other players with different skills, and I think that's the key in team cricket. Not everybody's going to perform the same role.
Well, I think in most of the games, winning the powerplays, whether you're batting or bowling, is crucial. Being strong in those first six overs, both in the field and with the bat, can help you stay ahead of the game. Fortunately, we have enough depth in our batting and bowling to capitalize on that."

Pitch Report (Ravi Shastri & Aaron Finch):
Shastri: "It's a gentle breeze blowing across the ground. But before we come to the pitch, let's go to the dimensions of this ground. This is one of the biggest grounds in India, and, I mean, it's one of the new stadiums. It's a beautiful stadium. Straight down the ground is 76 meters, mid-off is 71 meters, long-on is 72 meters, Offside square, anyone cutting is 68 meters, that's long.
I've got Aaron Finch with me. Finchy, first, tell me, will the dimensions of this ground make a difference, as I've said? And then, what do you make of this pitch?"
Finch: "Yeah, I think it will make a little bit of a difference. We've seen the ball into the surface being used, particularly with one side bigger than the other, right, throughout this tournament. But when we come to the wicket, this is the third time that the surface has been used throughout this IPL.
You can just see there's a hint of green grass on it, but there are also some bare red patches. And I think just being used to that a couple of times, we expect it to slow down a little bit more than it might have in the past. Anywhere around 190-200 will be a good score batting first. And we saw last time, when Lucknow played here, that the ball just held in the surface, particularly for spin. And I think we can expect with a really good quality spin attack in both lineups, that it will play a big part in tonight's game."
Shastri: "I reckon the team that wins the toss will still want to field first because of the dew factor, as teams have chased down big scores."

Team News:
LSG: Depending on the result of the toss, Arshin Kulkarni and Yash Thakur should be the respective impact substitutes.
-Mayank Yadav suffered another injury on the same spot that kept him out of action for a while earlier in the season. The pacer had a side strain and is unlikely to play a further part in this season.
KKR: Vaibhav Arora and Angkrish Raghuvanshi are most likely to swap each other as impact substitutes, depending on whether they bat or bowl first.
-Manish Pandey played a major role, coming in as an impact substitute in the previous game against Mumbai Indians. The Karnataka batter might get a nod in the playing XI.
-Harshit Rana should be back in the mix after serving a match ban due to his misconduct on the field twice in the IPL.

Preview by AkshayaKrishna Polya:
We are all set for another Super Sunday mania as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 treats us with a doubleheader on May 5. In the evening clash, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, in the 54th match of the ongoing season.
Currently, both are doing well in the top four. LSG are in third with 12 points from 10 games, winning six and losing four matches. While KKR are in second with 14 points from 10 matches, winning seven and losing only three.
This is the second time in this season these two are squaring off. In the previous outing at Eden Gardens, the Knight Riders thrashed the Super Giants by 8 wickets. Bowling first, KKR restricted LSG to 161/7 in 20 overs, courtesy of Mitchell Starc's three-fer and quality spells from Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, who also bagged one wicket each, along with Andre Russell and Vaibhav Arora. For LSG, Only Nicholas Pooran and KL Rahul looked in a nice flow, with Ayush Badoni chipping in as well. Despite a double strike from Mohsin Khan, Phil Salt's carnage took the Kolkata-based franchise home in the 16th over, with skipper Shreyas Iyer holding an end up.
The Lucknow-based franchise is coming off a crucial win against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at home earlier in the week. Mohsin, Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi showed what is a collective bowling effort as they managed to halt MI's progress at 144/7 in 20 overs after Rahul decided to bowl on winning the toss. Though debutant Arshin Kulkarni was trapped dead in front on the first ball, skipper KLR and Stoinis set a good platform before a series of wickets fell to ring alarm bells in the LSG dressing room. Stoinis' half-century had the required run rate under control, and Nicky P's experience came in handy, with the West Indian scoring the winning runs in the last over to see the team home by 4 wickets.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side, on the other hand, is also coming off a historic win at Wankhede. A couple of days ago, KKR managed to break the jinx against MI at Wankhede, winning for the first time since 2012. Put into bat first, KKR were in all sorts of trouble at 57/5. They had to use Manish Pandey as an impact player, who made the opportunity count, bailing the side out of a precarious situation and adding an 83-run partnership with Venkatesh Iyer. The Karnataka batter was out in the 40s, while Venky Iyer hit a superb 52-ball 70 and was the last batter to be dismissed, but not before seeing KKR score 169. The two-time champions then put the lacklustre Hardik Pandya-led side into the swords by reducing them to 71/6 before Suryakumar Yadav showed some fight with a gutsy half-century, which wasn't enough for the Mumbai-based franchise in the end as KKR broke the losing streak at MI's home with a 24-run triumph. Starc steamed in with a four-fer, a box that KKR desperately wanted to be ticked, while Narine, Russell and Chakaravarthy bagged a couple each.
A win here for Kolkata Knight Riders will almost confirm their playoff spot, while Lucknow Super Giant's victory will get them level with their counterparts.
To find out the result, join us at 6:30 PM IST and Local Time on Sunday for its live coverage!
